Employee Spotlight Of The Month: Peter Jenkins – Account Manager (Supply Chain Solutions)
20th January 2023
Welcome to the eighteenth of our ‘Employee Spotlight of the Month’ interviews! At Dakota, we believe that everyone within our organisation plays an equally important role in making the company what it is today.
Each month we will be sharing an interview with a member of staff in order to showcase their key responsibilities within the business and the benefits which they offer to our valued customer base.
This month we spoke with one of our newest recruits Peter Jenkins, Account Manager (Supply Chain Solutions), to find out more about his role within Dakota.
1. How long have you worked at Dakota and how long have you been in your current role?
I have worked at Dakota for almost two months now, although I am privileged to have worked alongside Dakota for the past seven years or so.
2. What does the role of Account Manager (Supply Chain Solutions) at Dakota involve?
The role of an Account Manager is multi-faceted. An essential part of my job is that I set the foundations for, and continue to build upon, the relationships with my customers whilst becoming their trusted advisor and the first person they turn to for their digital data capture requirements. I also have to maintain and further cultivate the strong connections we have with our many suppliers to ensure that I can offer varied and complete solutions to my customers.
3. What key attributes do you believe you need in order to achieve success within your role?
To achieve success within my role I believe that I need to be organised in order to juggle multiple ongoing opportunities whilst managing my customers’ expectations. I also need to be proactive, not just reactive, to offer the best levels of service to my clients. I also need to be honest, trustworthy and act with integrity at all times. Without all of these elements, building and maintaining long-standing relationships just isn’t possible.
4. As a new recruit, what do you hope to bring to Dakota and its customer base?
I am looking to bring a fresh perspective and some new ideas to the Dakota Team, built from my previous experience within the Auto ID industry. I also hope to bolster the considerable expertise within the business to enable the Dakota Team to create even more varied solutions for their customers.
5. What do you think will be the most challenging aspects of your role?
Every customer is different with diverse needs and requirements; there is no such thing as a ‘one size fits all’ solution. Balancing the relationship between procurement and the end user of the solution can sometimes be challenging as they can often have different priorities. Current lead times and supply chain issues make this more of a challenge at present.
6. How do you believe that your role positively impacts our customers’ experience?
My customers will come to know that they can rely on me to answer their queries and resolve their issues both big and small. By proving this over time I hope to become a trusted advisor to my customers and will continue to deliver the exceptionally high levels of service which Dakota customers have become accustomed since 2002. Consistency, reliability, honesty and integrity are the key attributes to delivering a positive customer experience.
I also have a passion for technology and keep up to date with the latest trends and emerging technologies within the Auto ID industry. This ensures that I can add value to my customers and offer the most fit-for-purpose and future-proof products and solutions to my customers.
7. How are you finding working at Dakota so far?
I have loved every minute of it so far! I’ve always known how great the team are at Dakota, however It’s been fantastic to see how close we are to our existing customers and the warm reception I have been given by them has been amazing.
8. And finally…..please give us an interesting or fun fact about yourself
I absolutely love to bake cakes and desserts however I have never watched an episode of The Great British Bake Off. One day I will, and I may just enter it – look out for me!
